Review: GloMinerals gloBody Bronzer

What They Say: "Create an all over sun-kissed glō with our New glōBody bronzer. This luxurious lotion can be used on all skin types to create a subtle, immediate, all over tan or enhance your own natural tan while giving just a hint of beautiful shimmer."

Jen's Experience: I was really looking forward to going for the pale look this winter, but then this bronzer came along. I've been testing it out on my exposed arms and legs to give my skin a little spark of glow when I go to work.

As far as the color goes for this bronzer, it's not at all orange-y, but it has enough red in it that I think it looks a little off in natural light. In more dim places, or even under the dreaded fluorescent lights at work, the color looks pretty good. It's not opaque, and it's also subtle enough so that if you're naturally very pale like me, you can still use it.

    Some tips for application:
  • I found that it was a lot easier to get the color blended well when I am well-moisturized. I apply a body moisturizer when I get out of the shower, let it absorb a little while I eat my breakfast, and then apply the bronzer on top.
  • Avoid the knee area. It looks very artificial.
  • Finally, work with a small amount at a time. This product really glistens, and with too thick a layer, it's easy to look like you're auditioning for the stage production of Goldfinger if you're too heavy handed. (I use one pump for each of my arms, and two pumps for each of my lower legs, if you need some guidelines to start with.)

Finally, the scent brings to mind suntan oil and days on the beach, which makes it a little out of season for the Fall months. I find that wearing a muskier perfume, like Prada, is a good blend for the scent.

Product Review: glōMinerals Face Primer and Highlighter

gloalissa.jpgWhat They Say: (about the glōFace Primer) "glōFace Primer allows you to create your own picture perfect canvas by filling in fine lines and creating a smooth, even surface ready for foundation. glōMinerals’ Face Primer, containing the signature combination of antioxidants, helps extend the wearability of your foundation, assuring flawless looking skin." (about the glōHighlighter) "For radiant brilliance in just the right places – glōHighlighter is the ideal finishing touch. By dabbing this pink luminizer onto your cheeks and temple, you can instantly brighten your complexion, giving you a subtle, effortless glō.”

Alissa’s Impression: I’ll start off by saying I wasn’t expecting much from these two products based on my skin type and complexion. I thought that the primer would be too heavy to wear with everything else I put on my face and that the highlighter would only accentuate my paleness. Fortunately, both products proved me wrong.

I found that while the gloFace Primer is really an unnecessary step, it made my skin feel so silky that I might just use it for the luxurious effects. Even my fingertips feel amazing after applying this stuff. It goes on very lightly I tried it with two different foundations (Cover Girl and Lancome) but it didn’t seem to enhance the coverage or smooth application of either. In the areas where I don’t use foundation, the primer did seem to help my loose powder last longer than usual.

The highlighter, on the other hand, has the potential to become one of my favorite products. It made my face luminous both in daytime and at night. The product itself is pink but there was no added color on the skin, only brightness. It had just enough shimmer to highlight without overwhelming the face or looking unnatural, which was perfect on my cheekbones and the inner corners of my eyes. My only complaint is that the pump dispenser shot out way too much product to use in one day.

Retail Prices: (the Face Primer) $22.00, (the Highlighter) $15.00 (both available for purchase at gloskincare.com or go to glominerals.com for more information - or call 888.496.8007)

Fall Product Review: Pieces from the glōminerals Fall Makeup Lineup

glomineralsnew.jpgWhat They Say: glōGloss: "Get the "Star Treatment" with incredible shine that feels fabulous. glōGloss melts onto your lips for a perfect, smooth finish. New for fall: lilac luster and star struck."

glōShimmer brick: "Be an instant sensation with our NEW glōShimmer brick in gleam. Four beautiful colors that you can swirl together for a captivating glō or use individually to illuminate that shining star in you."

glōPrecision eye pencil: "Achieve the fame you deserve with glōPrecision eye pencils in deep olive and plum. Dreamy, daring, legendary."

glōEye Shadow: "For that special effect, create your own color intensity from sheer to deep to totally dramatic! New for fall: berry, eggplant, and fern."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: This was my first experience with the glōminerals product line. I was overall very pleasantly surprised.

glomineralslip.jpgFirst of all, the gloss (shown in lilac), has a slight vanilla scent and is incredibly soft and moisturizing. I like its weight, and it lasts pretty well. The gloss also has a very slight opalescent sheen that makes lips look a little more voluptuous, too (I'm not going to say I didn't like that).

gloshimmerbrick.jpgThe new glō Shimmer Brick is a (very generous-sized) quad of completely wearable soft-shimmer shades. (the picture does NOT do the colors justice, TRUST ME). Each one could easily be used on cheeks or lids as color or subtle highlighter. They also layer very beautifully together and are incredibly soft in texture. This was perhaps my favorite part of their Fall lineup.

glomineralsshadowc.jpgNext are the eye shadow (in fern) and eye pencil (in olive). The shadow builds really easily just as they say, because of its very fine consistency. This shade also has just enough very fine flecks of gold to make it even prettier. The only thing that wasn't perfect about it was that it did crease a little bit after several hours. The eye pencil goes on smoothly and has a handy sponge tip on the other end if you'd like to smudge it a bit to create a more smoky look. The pencil could have lasted a little bit longer without wearing off, but it held up fairly well for one not billed as "longwear".

Retail Prices:
glō Gloss $15.00
glō Shimmer Brick $30.00
glō Eye shadow $17.00
glō Eye pencil $15.00
