Review: Avia Royal Night Complex (for Dry/Sensitive/Mature Skin Types)

aviaroyalnight.jpgWhat They Say: A light textured, highly concentrated blend of natural ingredients and botanical extracts. The combination of multiple hydrating, revitalizing and anti-aging agents are encapsulated in our unique multi-layer Liposomes which balance the natural moisture factor of the skin with a continuous time-release action. Softens fine lines and minimizes the appearance of deep wrinkles.

Main Eastern Ingredient: Royal Jelly – regenerative & anti-aging
Main Western Ingredient: Vitamin E – anti-oxidant & healing

Other active Ingredients: Sweet Almond Oil, Soja Glycine, Olive Fruit Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Shea Butter, Rosehip Oil, Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamin A.

Lisa’s Experience: Avia Royal Night Complex comes in a 1.7 oz. plastic container with a pump dispenser and clear plastic top. The pump does turn and lock making it a no-brainer for traveling. Like the cream I reviewed a few weeks ago from the same line, the product itself is a thick creamy ivory colored moisturizer with a light “powdery” scent. I personally didn’t care for the smell but those liking something soft will love it. When it came to performance of Avia Royal Night Complex I did like it a little better than the Intensive Hydration, which is from the same line.

I could tell right away that this was going to be a “night time only” product for me just as the label implies. I smoothed on enough to cover my face, neck and décolleté and climbed into bed wondering what changes I might see to my skin in a few weeks. The formula is a bit waxy-feeling and I had my doubts as to whether it would soak in by morning, but soak in it did – at least most of it. My skin felt soft and hydrated with a very slight bit of product residue still on top. Nothing a good morning face cleansing couldn’t remedy. I primed and made up my face and did fine throughout the day with my regular moisturizer underneath but found I didn’t feel quite moisturized all day.

In all fairness, it’s been cold and windy all over the country - unusually so in many parts. It could be that Old Man Winter is just making it hard for us all to stay nice and hydrated or it could be that this product isn’t the right one for me. For the time being I think I’ll go back to my tried and true moisturizers that I know handle the weather, heating, wind, etc. but I did give this product an extra lippie for the softness I felt each morning upon awakening. Though I saw no difference in my fine lines or wrinkles, my skin was very soft after use.

Review: Avia Intensive Hydration

lisa-photo.jpgHi, DeLush Readers! We'd love for you to welcome our newest addition to the DeLush Review Panel, Lisa. Lisa is 48 and lives in Dallas, Texas. You may have chatted with her in the DeLush Forum, as she's participated a lot there. We will have a bio page and sidebar info up for her shortly, but we are glad to have her help us to expand our reviewing range here at DeLush. And without further delay, here is Lisa's very first DeLush review!

aviaintensive.jpgWhat They Say: "Avia intensive Hydration is a special homogenous formula fortified with marine extracts, vitamins, and anti-aging ingredients, especially formulated to soften the skin, and improve the tone and texture. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is improved by promoting cell renewal. The ingredients are encapsulated in our unique multi-layer Liposomes that quickly deliver them into the skin and have a continuous time-release action.

Main Eastern ingredient: Rosehip Oil – calming & smoothing
Main Western ingredient: Shea Butter – hydrating & sun protection

Other active ingredients: Soma Glycine, Sweet Almond Oil, Seaweed Extract, Bladderwrack Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Royal Jelly, Glycine, L-Proline, Alanine"

Lisa’s Experience: I’ve been using Avia’s Intensive Hydration every morning for several weeks. The product comes in a 1.7 oz. plastic container (which is great for traveling), has a pump dispenser and clear plastic top. The product itself is a thick creamy ivory colored moisturizer. While the scent is light, I found it to be reminiscent of older smelling creams reminding me more of “grandmotherly” type fragrances as opposed to some of the other products on the market. I personally didn’t care for the smell but those liking something soft and powdery will love it.

As far as performance, I was disappointed in this product. It smoothes over the skin nicely but after waiting about 15 minutes for it to absorb before applying make-up, I still had a greasy or waxy feeling as if the product didn’t totally absorb into the skin. Even after using a primer, I found my make-up did not go on as smooth or stay on nearly as long and I developed some “shine” far earlier in the day than usual. As far as changes in my skin, I didn’t see any measurable differences. In all honesty, it’s a bit too early to see how it passes the mark on fine line and wrinkle reduction but I really didn’t see any appreciable difference in the tone or texture of my skin.

For those who like a thick, creamy, almost cold cream type of feeling, you might give this a try. I found the Shea Butter a little too much for me. I’m afraid I’ll have to pass on this one.

Review: Avia Enlightening Brightener

What They Say: "A synergistic mixture of botanical extracts, amino acids, and vitamins which help to normalize and inhibit the production of excess melanin gently and safely without the use of harsh chemicals. All skin types can use this as a spot treatment for hyper pigmentation. Active ingredients include embilica fruit extract (lightening and melanin inhibiting) and date fruit extract (also lightening and melanin inhibiting)."

Jen's Experience: I have been excited to try a brightening product on my skin because I have some spots near my hair line and on my upper lip that are darker than the rest of the skin on my facem probably from sun overexposure. Although I have a ton of skin care products already in my regime, I added this one over a month ago to both my morning and evening routine in the hopes of making a dent in these areas. Did it work? Well, not completely, but enough that I will continue to use this product in my daily routine. The areas definitely lighter and less noticable, but I am not sure if it's just that or that since I never see daylight at this time of year that my skin is just naturally that much lighter. I wish the texture of this product was a little thicker. It's quite fluid and I have trouble targeting specific areas on my face. I also think the smell of the product is a little obnoxious, but at least it's not long-lasting. Overall? I was just hoping for a bit more out of this product.

Review: Avia Spa Instant Gratification Blemish Remover

aviaspainstantgrat.jpgWhat They Say: "Say goodbye to embarrassing and frustrating break-outs!! Oily, Acneic and problem skin types should use this highly effective and gentle formula without interfering with normal skin functions. Active Ingredients include cinnamomum bark extract (soothing and balancing) and Benzyl Peroxide (reduces level of free fatty acids & skin infection, inhibits pustular formation)."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: This serum-type solution comes in a very generous-sized dispenser, especially considering how little you pump out at each use. While you can feel a slight tingle on blemishes, I didn't notice the significant shrinking that I hoped for. There was some reduction of redness, but I felt that after several applications throughout the day (tried on a few blemishes over a period of a several weeks), the blemishes were only mildly reduced a bit more quickly than if I had not used the product at all. Additionally, there was a bit of drying out of my skin on the areas where I applied it.

While this eliminated some rednesss and managed to reduce the size a bit after multiple applications, it isn't the miracle you may be looking for to eliminate the occasional blemish.

Retail Price: $25.00 (aviaspa.com)

Review: Avia Spa O2 Restoring Mask

aviamask-copy-2.jpgWhat They Say: "A deep, pore controlling and normalizing mask formulated with carefully selected botanicals to regulate and balance excess sebum and promote healing of blemishes. Acneic and problem skin types should use 1-2 times a week. Active Ingredients are wasabi (fights bacteria and is deeply cleansing) and vitamin E (anti-aging, moisturizing, antioxidant properties)."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: I really do love this mask. In addition to having an incredibly nice and subtle non-fragrance-like scent, it feels instantly cooling and calming on my skin. Leaving it on for 10-15 minutes is not uncomfortable at all, as this formula feels almost whipped in texture. I noticed after I rinsed it off that some sensitive areas on my face and a couple of "almost pimples" that were trying to peek out had calmed down. My skin was so refreshed. I did feel the need to go ahead and apply moisturizer afterward, but that was okay. I can't say that if you have very difficult problem skin that this will completely eliminate that for you, but I can say that when you use it you just KNOW you are doing something very good for your skin. I swear mine was more supple after use. You also get a sufficient amount of product, enough to last for several months worth of usage or more.

*Updated to add: I wouldn't recommend this for very dry skin, because of the ingredients' pore-tightening and sebum-reducing properties. You just may feel like all the moisture you want to try to keep in your skin gets sucked out! But for oily/problem skin this is better-suited.

Retail Price: $80.00 (aviaspa.com or in the Avia Spa in Santa Barbara, California)
